Interski IASI 2015 Argentina, Cerro Castor
A look from the inside out, of the world congress from the most southern ski resort in the world.
Representing Ireland (IASI) at the world ski instructors congress, the team & myself arrive in the town of Ushuaia, Argentina, after a 33hour journey!
So what is interski?...
Interski is about sharing teaching approaches & finding out new ideas from countries around the world. We listen, demonstrate, watch & ski, to feel what new ideas are like. Some are the same, but with a different approach, and some have a different skill focus. The end result is how we get people, skiing & snowboarding and how we interact with customers, from an instructors point of view. Workshops on snow & off took place every day with demonstartions, race sessions & races, freestyle, and bumps skiing. Everyone & every country had ideas to share on how they deliver lessons & we all gained so much from each other. Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Switerland, Austria, Canada, USA, Germany are some of the workshops & sessions we attended. We also delivered an on snow session & two off snow lectures to various different countries.
With great support from Head UK, we had the best equipment to help us be our best against the other great instructors from around the world. 54 nations having worked hard on their performances to see who could make the sweetest & cleanest turns! Our Team with Derek Tate, Pete Gillespie, Warren Smith, Vittorio Caffi, Shona Tate & myself Ali Smith, had the ability & the skills from over 25 years each of skiing & teaching, the world over to show the world what IASI & IRELAND could really do!!.
Ireland have great ideas, and IASI deserve to be where we are within the elite group of snowsports education systems. We are proud to be part of the European Union framework and ISIA, which enables our instructors who have completed our pathway to teach around the world.
Traveling for work around the world in the northern & southern ski resorts of our fantastic planet, we get to make some life long friends that you never forget. Meeting up again with Charles Stephens who was part of the Australian delegation was a massive plus. A great friend for life. Not forgetting,
Dave Stewart, & Andy Rae the current APSI Australian team director & manager. Skiing also with two life long friends in Pete Gillespie & Warren Smith, brought 3 young lads form a small town & dry ski slope in the UK, Hemel Hempstead, to full time professionals in snowsports for over 25 years each, to the slopes of Argentina for this great Interski Congress in Ushuaia, Cerro Casto.
The experience of attending the Interski Congress & leading the Irish team down the open ceremony holding the flag, was a moment i will never forget.
A proud moment for all the years of working & training to get the highest qualifications, finally came to something special. With great team mates, life long friends from home & Australia, enjoying the feeling of sharing our ideas that we follow every day, to nations from around the world. Skiing & enjoying the mountains of Cerro Castro, Argentina September 2015.Then returning home to the family I love to share my experience. Its been fantastic.Live the Dream!
